President Biden’s administration could face a dire defeat in the midterms after eight out of ten Americans claimed the US is “out of control”. The POTUS had pledged to “restore the soul of the nation” from polarising politics after the turbulent Trump presidency, however, polls suggest many Americans still believe the nation is in crisis.
A YouGov poll for CBS News said those surveyed claim “the country is as turbulent now as it was at the height of protests unleashed by the murder of George Floyd” in 2020.
The biggest issues of concern for voters are the economy and inflation, followed by crime, which they believe the Republicans to be better at handling.
Many independent voters (88 percent) agree that America is “in chaos”, which could prove damning for the Democrat standing in Congress.
Supporters of the two main parties are split over the problem of economy vs democracy, reported The Times.
Asked to choose between two options, 63 percent of Democrats said they were most worried about “a functioning democracy” rather than “a strong economy” (21 percent).
However, the position was reversed among Republicans with 70 percent opting for a strong economy against 29 percent for a functioning democracy.
Many Republicans are still refusing to accept the result of the 2020 election which saw Donald Trump ousted, although there has never been any evidence of electoral fraud.

When asked which party “makes you feel safer”, the majority of 46 percent said the Republicans, 30 percent said the Democrats and 24 percent said neither.
Midterm elections will take place on November 8, with the Democrats at risk of losing control of Congress.
President Biden has shared his fears of a “really difficult two years” if that were to happen and added that he doesn’t “want to start from scratch”.
