Yellowstone fans are eagerly awaiting the return of John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his children at the Dutton ranch. John has taken up the role of Governor of Montana as a last resort when it comes to protecting his land. Country singer Lainey Wilson is joining the season five cast and she paid tribute to some of her co-stars.

Yellowstone fans are looking forward to watching John Dutton play his last card in the Western melodrama.

The patriarch reluctantly agreed to run for Governor so he could rally support and gain enough power to protect the ranch.

However, it will not be an easy task as enemies old and new will be getting under his feet.

There are a number of new characters joining the latest season, including Country star Lainey Wilson, who will play musician Abby.

During an exclusive talk with Express.co.uk, Lainey was asked whether her character was similar to fan-favourite Walker (Ryan Bingham).

Lainey explained how Abby is also a musician who had been passing through Montana and she ends up finding a big fanbase there.

Like Walker, Abby will be singing some original music in the series, and Lainey said she valued co-star Ryan’s advice.

She said: “Ryan Bingham is just awesome, he’s just as cool as I thought he was going to be.

“I just think he is so talented, both as a singer and actor, I think he can do it all.

“It’s so cool to be able to be around people who just like to be creative because that’s what I like to do.

Lainey was thrilled with the reception she was met with when she arrived on set and loved meeting her co-stars.

When asked who she was excited to see, she said: “All of the bunkhouse boys and girls, they are a good time.

“I was looking forward to hanging out with them and seeing if, you know, who they are on the show is pretty much the same as who they are in real life.

“And I will say that some of them yes, they just like having a good time and those are my kind of people.

“The entire cast, the crew, everybody just was way nicer and kinder than I ever expected.”

Lainey’s acting debut comes after the release of her latest album, Bell Bottom Country, on October 28.

The album features a retrospective coming-of-age ballad about young love, called Watermelon Moonshine.

The song sees Lainey nostalgically reflecting on the fearlessness of teenage love.

This is not the first time her music has been featured in Yellowstone and she was selected to do an exclusive performance for the cast.

She added: “I’m such a fan of Yellowstone and Taylor, this is an absolute dream, a dream I didn’t even know was on the menu.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to not only step outside my comfort zone and explore acting but to share more of my music on such an incredible platform, especially one that fans eagerly look to for music discovery.”

Yellowstone season 5 airs on The Paramount Network from November 13. Fans in the UK can watch the following day on Paramount Plus.
