With more details being released about the book, more royal fans are expressing their opinions and hopes for the read. Author and historian Carolyn Harris wrote on Twitter: “I would be interested in reading more about Prince Harry’s experiences in the military.”

A former British soldier who was the first openly gay servicemen to feature on the cover of ‘Soldier’ magazine, told of how Prince Harry protected him from homophobic soldiers.

Harry was in the British Army from 2005 to 2015 and previously said they were “the happiest times in my life”.

James Wharton praised the Prince for taking action when fellow soldiers were taunting Wharton over his sexuality.

The pair served alongside each other in the Household Cavalry where Prince Harry was a “well-liked” and “good” officer.

According to Mr Wharton: “He knew how to do his job, he was skilled, he took the time to know his people, he wasn’t afraid to get himself involved with things that were going on.”

The Duke of Sussex was Wharton’s tank commander in 2008 and the soldier spoke of how Harry was “quite offended” by their behaviour and “told them off”.

Wharton’s colleagues made him feel “uncomfortable” about his sexuality and once Harry spoke to them, the issue stopped.

“I told him that there were a couple of soldiers outside who weren’t very happy with the fact I was gay.”

After Harry had a discussion with his colleagues, “the problem went away”.

Wharton said: “Quite offended that his gunner was being picked on by these people, Prince Harry went out and saw these soldiers and spoke to them, and the problem went away.

“He told them off and they left me alone.”
