'Wouldn't vote for you!' Tory member rages at MP about choosing unity over competence

A Conservative Party member in the Question Time audience admitted that he would not vote for the party at the moment. The man asked if the Tories were “sacrificing” ministerial competence for the sake of party unity.

He said: “What I’m looking at and what I’m worried about is are we sacrificing ministerial competence in the name of party unity.”?

Question Time host Fiona Bruce responded by asking: “And what do you think?”

The man replied by admitting that he was a Conservative Party member but would not vote for them in their current guise.

He added that he was “horrified” by the level of “incompetence” shown by the Government.

He said: “I think we are actually and actually I’m a paid Conservative Party member and I wouldn’t vote for them at the moment at all.

“I kind of echo what the MP Chris said the other week.

“I’m actually almost horrified with the level of incompetence that the Government have shown.”

At this point Fiona Bruce attempted to clarify which Conservative MP he was referring to.

Speaking to BBC News earlier this month shortly before the resignation of Liz Truss, Mr Walker fumed that he thought that the current state of the Conservative Party was a “shambles and a disgrace” and “appalling.”

He said: “As a Tory MP for 17 years, who’s never been a minister, who’s got on with it loyally most of the time, I think it’s a shambles and a disgrace.

“I think it is utterly appalling.

“I’m livid and, you know, I really shouldn’t say this but I hope all those people that put Liz Truss in Number 10 – I hope it was worth it.

“I hope it was worth it for the ministerial red box.

“I hope it was worth it to sit around the cabinet table because the damage they have done to our party is extraordinary.

“I’ve had enough. I’ve had enough of talentless people putting their tick in the right box, not because it’s in the national interest, but because it’s in their own personal interest to achieve a ministerial position.”
