The royal visit marked the Princess’ first royal tour since the death of her mother Queen Elizabeth II. On Thursday, the third day of her tour, the Princess Royal visited the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, where she met with families to learn about the devastation caused by the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Uganda presently hosts an estimated five million refugees, the largest refugee population in Africa.
Her Royal Highness also visited a school within the refugee settlement where she saw first-hand the work of Save the Children, a charity Princess Anne has supported for over five decades.
The Princess met with a Catch-up Club, which is run by the charity, and took part in an activity with the children to build a story from pictures.
Royal fans took to Twitter to congratulate the Princess for her hard work, with one saying: “Oh wow 50 years!! Amazing commitment from an amazing lady”.
Others said that her visit to Uganda “is memorable” with another adding that the royal appears fond of her work.
The Twitter user said: “I love that Princess Anne seems to actually love what she does. She brings light to dark corners of the world with Save The Children.”
Dragana Strinic, the Country Director of Save the Children Uganda, said: “It was an honour to host Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal today to raise awareness of the impact that conflict and the Covid-19 school closures are having on millions of children in Uganda.”

“Always quietly without fuss, diligently working in the background.
“Had the pleasure of meeting her about 20 years ago, she is a very warm and amusing lady. Three cheers for the Princess Royal.”
Save the Children commended Anne for her service to the charity, noting that the Princess Royal “spends a significant amount of time visiting Save the Children’s projects, both overseas and in the UK”.
