Police are hunting a thug who pushed a man onto the tracks as he waited for a train on New York City’s subway. CCTV footage shows the terrifying incident in Brooklyn where 32-year-old passenger David Martin was attacked and barged onto the tracks by an unknown thug as he waited for a train.
The horrifying ordeal, which happened in the ‘blink of an eye’, comes amid skyrocketing crime in New York City, where several other passengers have been pushed onto the tracks in recent weeks.
In the latest attack on Friday, the lifelong New Yorker, who was on his way to work at the time, said: “I don’t know how to even get through this.”
Police have said the incident occurred around 2.40pm Friday on the northbound L-train tracks at the Wyckoff Avenue and Myrtle Avenue subway station.
In the video, the attacker places his bag down before looking both ways, appearing to check if the coast is clear. He then sprints and slams shoulder first into the unsuspecting victim who tumbles onto the tracks leaving behind only a pair of sunglasses on the busy platform.
The pusher then grabs his bag and exits the subway station through the turnstiles. Police released the footage on Saturday in an attempt to locate the suspect.
Police have said the victim was hurt in the attack but luckily he wasn’t hit by a train. A transit work told the New York Post the victim had hurt his shoulder.
The worker said: “He was just in shock that it happened to him.”
“It’s not like he had a confrontation with the person or they were arguing or anything. It was just a random shove. He just got shoved into the tracks – that’s what he said. This guy pushed him into the tracks,” the transit worker added.
The victim, who has taken the subway since middle school, gave an interview to local news channel WABC Eyewitness News about the attack which he said came “in the blink of an eye”.
“People were told that I had no injuries, but I am laying in bed with a broken collarbone, and my face is so swollen. And mentally I don’t know how to even get through this,” Martin said.

He shared the video captioned: “This is the dangerous reality of life in [Democratic Governor] Kathy Hochul’s New York.”
New York City has seen a spike in crime with more than 30 percent more crimes reported in July of this year than the same time last year, according to NYPD statistics.
Crimes committed in the subway system were up 41 percent this year and included nine homicides, according to the Department.
Police are asking any witnesses to call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-8477 or report online. The attacker was wearing glasses, a yellow hoodie and a black jacket at the time of the attack.
