Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will reportedly be invited to see King Charles III be crowned at Westminster Abbey next year on May 6, but should the couple travel from their home in California to the UK to attend the event and reunite with the Royal Family? Vote in our poll.

Royal commentator Neil Sean said last week that sources at the Palace confirmed an invite for the ceremony would be sent out to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, alongside their two children – Archie, three, and one-year-old Lilibet – but it was unclear whether they would have a “major role”.

Mr Sean explained: “Everybody who is anybody will want to attend the coronation because it goes down in history. Everyone looks at the guestlist. But the focus has returned to Charles’ youngest son. I contacted the Palace, and they confirmed that yes, they will be invited, but they did not want to confirm the role they will be playing.”

Similarly, Entertainment Tonight’s royal expert Katie Nicholl claimed that the King and Queen Camilla would like the couple to attend the occasion.

She said: “Behind the scenes, Camilla has done really everything she can to try and bring this family back together, and press the importance of trying to move on from this rift, and I think she would be very pleased, as would the King for Harry and Meghan to be at the coronation.”

The source told the Daily Beast last week: “Almost everything Charles has done over the past 20 years has, in one way or another, been about getting Camilla accepted by the public. He loves her. He is incredibly protective of her and he couldn’t do it without her. Even the Queen finally accepted that.”

They continued: “It is one thing for Harry to attack Charles, he can take it on the chin, but if Harry forces him to choose, by laying into Camilla in his book, I have no doubt he will choose Camilla.”

The King’s coronation is due to take place eight months after his accession to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8. Charles is reportedly hoping for a scaled-back ceremony in respect of the cost of living crisis and the monarchy’s role in modern-day Britain. Just 2,000 guests will be invited to the occasion in comparison to his mother’s 8,000 on June  2, 1953.
