Emmerdale Farm has been home to many attractive characters over the last 50 years. The series has seen several weddings, hook-ups, affairs and heartbreaks from Andy and Katie Sugden to David and Kathy Glover. But who is your favourite heartthrob of all time? Vote in our poll.
The 50th anniversary week sees a huge storm strike the village in the Yorkshire Dales, leaving one character trapped, Kim Tate and Will Taylor’s wedding in jeopardy and Chas Dingle rushed to hospital.
The iconic Woolpack will also be damaged by the weather in addition to a barn at Moira’s farm collapsing, meaning her cows are free to stampede.
Ahead of the milestone celebrations, Emmerdale won the award for Best Serial Drama at the National Television Awards (NTAs) on Thursday, October 13.
Accepting the award, actress Olivia Bromley, who portrays Dawn Taylor, said: “It means the world to us, especially this year, our 50th year!”
She continued: “50 years of Dales drama and we are so proud to take this back to Yorkshire. This is to everyone up North who worked so hard, our amazing crew, our amazing cast, production, costume, everyone on our team. Thank you so much, and here is to the next 50! Thank you so much!”

He added: “On a daily basis, Emmerdale continues to depict what life is really like for those who work the land and protect our precious countryside.
“It also stresses brilliantly something that concerns me greatly: the long-term sustainability of the way we produce our food.
“I’m also heartened by the production team’s efforts off-screen. Their ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 has already made Emmerdale one of the first British programmes to be awarded Albert certification, recognising its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its production process and to create content that stresses the importance of establishing a sustainable future.
“So it is only right that the National Television Awards acknowledge the enormous contribution Emmerdale has made and I hope those watching will join me in sending a warmest congratulations on its 50th anniversary. And wishing it an equally successful future.”
