Dmitry Tursunov has appeared to agree with the opinion that Emma Raducanu’s parents “mismanage” her career. It comes after their partnership ended earlier this week, with reports stating that it was the Russian who opted to stop coaching the 19-year-old rather than Raducanu’s decision.
Raducanu and Tursunov announced that they had parted ways on Tuesday after a successful two-month partnership. It marked the fourth coaching split in 15 months for the British No 1, though this time around it was reported that Tursunov himself made the decision to walk away.
And it now seems that the retired former world No 20 had other reasons for ending things, as some of the Russian’s liked tweets have been unearthed, including one that says Raducanu’s parents have “mismanaged” her career. The original tweet is from June, in reply to tennis coach and broadcaster Brad Gilbert claiming that the world No 68 should have stuck with Andrew Richardson, the coach she was with during her historic 2021 US Open win.
“Appears the parents are mismanaging. It’s like an owner of major league sports team telling the GM to change coaches annually or what players to draft,” someone replied, with Tursunov liking the tweet. It is not known when the retired pro-turned-coach liked the tweet, but some fans have screenshots showing that he liked more recent tweets about their split before unliking them.
