The Watcher makes its Netflix debut on October 13 and the drama is based on true events involving the Broaddus family. In June 2014, Derek and Maria Broaddus were ready to move with their three children into the dream house they bought for $1.3 million. However, after months of torment from a stalker, they sold the home and have since spoken out about the harrowing experience.
Where are Derek and Maria Broaddus now?
In the upcoming Netflix series, Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale star as Nora and Dean Brannock, characters based on the married couple.
When they first arrived at their new home at 657 Boulevard, Derek found a strange letter addressed to the new occupant.
The letter was from someone called The Watcher, who claimed his family had been keeping an eye on the house for years.
The disturbing letter, and others that followed, included details about the Broaddus family and their children.
One of the first letters read: “You have children. I have seen them. So far I think there are three that I have counted.

The report said: “When the sale closed, the Broadduses asked their real estate attorney to give a note to the new owners.
“’We wish you nothing but the peace and quiet that we once dreamed of in this house,’ they wrote. They also attached a photograph of The Watcher’s handwriting in case any new letters showed up. So far, they haven’t.”
The report says The Broadduses still live in Westfield and Derek was having difficulty moving past his obsession with the case and how it impacted them.
For the Netflix adaptation, the couple’s names have been changed and the on-screen family was made to look as little like theirs as possible.
The report from The Cut claimed the Broadduses have not seen the Netflix show.
Buying 657 Boulevard in Westfield was a lifelong dream for Maria as she was born in the area.
Their new house was just a stone’s throw from her childhood home and she was excited to make memories with her family there.
The Watcher airs on Netflix on October 13.
