Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag provided an injury update on forward Anthony Martial after the Frenchman was substituted off in the first half of the 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday. Alex Iwobi gave the hosts the lead in the fifth minute, but just ten minutes later Antony got his third Red Devils goal in three Premier League games before Cristiano Ronaldo notched his 700th club career goal to secure all three points at Goodison Park.
Martial was brought off for Ronaldo, but did manage to get an assist for Antony before he departed the pitch and Ten Hag confirmed it was a new injury for the striker. “I don’t think so [it is the same injury],” Ten Hag told BT Sport. “It’s something different. He had a problem in his back, he was important, assist for the goal of Antony so we’re happy with that.”
Speaking about his side’s performance in general, Ten Hag added: “Quickly 1-0 down but the reaction of the team is good that’s one of our aims to do better with setbacks, how they stay composed, stay in the game, played out of a good formation for the first 35 minutes, it was impressive our side.
“I think especially first-half, it was the pressing well. We came out and it was difficult for them to come in the game, the game is to get switches and a lot of crosses in we didn’t allow that. I’m happy about that.

“You seen during the game how important he [Ronaldo] is. How composed he is, winning a lot of balls, winning the ball for the goal of Cristiano Ronaldo. So good performance. Once again, we’re happy with all the subs coming on, Cristiano making the winning goal, clear, also Scott [McTominay], Rapha[el Varane], in the end four difficult situations and you seen how important Rapha is with his heading capacity.”
United had to defend deep in the second half as the Toffees searched for an equaliser, but Bruno Fernandes was proud of how his team-mates dug in and kept Frank Lampard’s side at bay. “We defended really well,” Fernandes told BT Sport. “This is what it is about, togetherness and make the best for the team.
