The Red Bull star had a snap of oversteer while driving slowly through the quick 130R corner. However, Norris was on a quick lap behind and had to dive to the grass to avoid a collision.
Verstappen swore on team radio moments after the incident in his anger at the mistake. The reigning champion said: “**** **** mate, unbelievable.” Speaking after the chequered flag, Verstappen blamed cold tyres as the main reason behind the spin.
He explained: “I was just driving quite slow, and I wanted to accelerate but my tyres were quite cold, so then I had a big moment. Then of course Lando was trying to pass me at the same time so he had to avoid me a little bit, but luckily nothing happened.”
