Animal Rebellion activists poured milk over the floor of the food halls at Fortnum & Mason and Selfridges in London. The duo, one woman and one man, were shortly escorted out of the building, leading the protest group to claim they were “assaulted”.
At 11.45am, the duo entered Fortnum & Mason on Piccadilly and took milk bottles from the shelves.
They then proceeded to dump the milk out onto the stores carpet before storming off to carry on their protest
About 45 minutes later at around 12.30pm, the duo were filmed pouring milk over a cheese stand at Selfridges on Oxford Street.
The Metropolitan Police said they had made no arrests but they were called to Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers were today, Friday October 7, called at approximately 12.35pm and attended reports of criminal damage at a business premises on Oxford Street, W1A. No one was arrested. Inquiries continue.
“Separately officers attended a business premises in Piccadilly, W1A just before 12pm on Friday October 7 to reports of criminal damage. No one was arrested. Enquiries continue.”
Animal Rebellion, an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion, posted a video of the duo dumping milk in the stores.
Reports say the group claimed that one of its protesters was “assaulted”, which appeared to be when a man put his arm in front of the woman’s neck as he directed her out.
They said on Twitter: “Inspired by their actions? Join us tomorrow at Green Park at 11am in an act of mass love and Resistance, see you there!”
