The Queen Consort arrived at the new museum dedicated to the famous Norwegian artist Edward Munch and was greeted by the director in the great hall. She was joined by her husband King Harald along with Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Mari.
The opening ceremony took place outside the musuem on Edvard Munch Square, where the King spoke, and the Queen cut the ceremonial ribbon.
The exhibitions opened by the Queen reflected of contemporary art dedicated to and inspired by Munch’s art.
Following the formal openings those present received a more in-depth lecture about what they could expect from the new collections.
There was also music and Queen Sonja was given a tour of the three exhibitions.
The Queen met a number of artists and was shown the first edition of the “MUNCH Triennale.”
This is a group exhibition for contemporary art, which is set to be launched with a new socially relevant theme every third year.
The first edition called “The Machine is us,” was designed by 26 contemporary artists who “reflect in different ways on how new technology affects us, both as individuals and as a community,” according to the Royal House.
In the second exhibition the theme was focused around the way that people relate to each other and their surroundings.

“Now the house will also be filled with people, and the audience’s mind and soul will be filled with experiences.
“The world comes to Oslo to see Munch’s art.
“In his spirit, we joyfully share him with the rest of the world.”
