The Irish actor, 64, was discussing his upcoming new period drama Emily with Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on Good Morning Britain when he began to criticise the government, saying people should vote to “get rid” of them and calling for a general election.
The Line of Duty stalwart Adrian talked about whether or not the police drama would be returning for another series, indicating upcoming episodes could be on the horizon.
However, he soon swerved into talking about politics, predicting the public would soon vote the Tories out.
When asked if there should be a general election, Adrian responded: “As soon as possible, yep.
“I think there’s a paucity of leadership in the country at the moment and I think they’re a shoddy bunch of people, and we should get rid of them.”

“Little bit of politics,” Susanna remarked as Adrian added: “Yeah, throw a bit of that in.”
After commenting the government is run by “a shoddy bunch of people,” Susanna pointed out he isn’t a stranger to politics.
“You have done a little bit of politics online,” she pointed out. “With your characters from Line of Duty making a politic stance.”
“Yeah,” the actor confirmed. “I mean look, satire… where would we be without it?
“We don’t have it anymore, it’d be nice if Spitting Image was back, I think. You know, that would be a good idea, wouldn’t it?”
In early 2022, a spoof video showing Adrian’s Line of Duty character Ted Hastings grilling former Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the Partygate scandal surfaced.
The jokey clip was shared by one of Duty creator Jed Mercurio, who commented: “Brilliant work.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
