England thrashed San Marino 10-0-0 to book their place at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Harry Maguire got the Three Lions roaring when he headed home inside six minutes. England’s advantage was doubled soon after when Bukayo Saka’s effort deflected in. Harry Kane then killed the game before the break by blasting four goals in 15 minutes – two of which came from the spot. Emile Smith Rowe, Tyrone Mings, Tammy Abraham and Saka all netted in the second half. Express Sport reporter Matthew Dunn rates how each England player performed.
ENGLAND (3-4-3)
RAMSDALE 6
Justified earning a cap with a full length save before half-time but would been disappointed to let it in.
MAGUIRE 7
Another stunning Slab Head goal to kick things off and then some good passes but also some bad ones.
MINGS 7
Looked thoroughly comfortable bringing the ball out of defence and remains a solid back-up option.
ALEXANDER ARNOLD 7
Seemed to struggle to find a way to get involved initially but his crossing at the end was absolutely devastating.
BELLINGHAM 7
Maybe lost possession a few times too many, but he can learn and some of his ideas were just brilliant.
PHILLIPS 7
Tidied things up nicely when things looked like they might go awry and was key in keep San Marino so pinned back
SAKA 8
He uses his brutal pace simply and effectively again and again to undo defences. And even grabbed a goal.
FODEN 8
Nobody knows where or when he will pop up or what pass he will play. He will torment better defences than this.
KANE 9
Eventually even the announcer sounded bored naming him as scorer. Rooney here he comes. Magnificent!
SMITH ROWE 7
Things did not always come off for him but he looked to be positive and completely at home on the England stage.
