The Block: Kirsty Lee Akers details her high school sweetheart romance with Jesse Anderson

They’re The Block fan favourites who have together since they were just 16 years old.

And on Monday, high school sweethearts Kirsty Lee Akers, 34, and Jesse Anderson, 33, opened up about their touching love story – and revealed how they’ve only ever been with each other their entire lives.

Kirsty – who married Jesse in a quaint ceremony in 2014 – candidly joked to Daily Mail Australia she’s had ‘one doodle my whole life’, before sweetly explaining how the duo’s romance has stood the test of time.

‘It is cliché, but we really are best friends,’ the country music star said. ‘We often joke that if we were to separate or get divorced, we’d probably have to meet up on the weekends just to hang out with each other.

‘We don’t have the sort of relationship where we’d tell our best friends things we wouldn’t tell each other. In harder times like [The Block], we just come together.

‘We’ve done that with every situation with life. No matter how bad things get, we still have each other.’

The pair then said they had considered renewing their vows in future following their win on The Block, after having a ‘really cr***y wedding’ seven years prior – at a time when both of them were living in a shed behind Jesse’s mother’s home.

Wedding day: Kirsty and Jesse married in 2014, but it wasn't the ceremony they always dreamed of. 'We had to do everything ourselves,' Kirsty said, with Jesse adding:'Kirsty's got a massive family, so we had about 110 people and only spent $5000'

‘It was really stressful our wedding, as we had to do everything ourselves,’ Kirsty said, with Jesse adding: ‘Kirsty’s got a massive family, so we had about 110 people and only spent $5000.’

‘We had it in a really beautiful hall, but we had to do everything ourselves. We had to set up all the tables ourselves, do all the clean-up,’ Kirsty explained.

‘Also, at the time we were living in Jesse’s mum’s shed. We came home from our wedding, it was pouring down rain. We came back, and our bed was saturated with water as the roof had leaked. It was just horrendous.’

‘One day we will renew our vows,’ Jesse added, before Kirsty said: ‘We never even had a honeymoon really, we took one day off work at the time. It was just terrible.’
