Jessie Murphy’s VERY different Melbourne Cup: Footy WAG visits a thoroughbred horse nursery in Victoria to learn about animals welfare

She’s the glamorous WAG who is usually front and centre by the race track at Flemington on Cup day.

But on Tuesday, Jessie Murphy (née Habermann) celebrated the biggest day in the Spring Racing Carnival, the Melbourne Cup, in a rather unusual way.

Instead of watching the race that stops the nation on the field, Jessie enjoyed a day out at the RosemontStud thoroughbred nursery in Victoria when she learned all about how the horses are ‘cared for from the moment they are born’.

‘What an incredible day we had,’ Jessie wrote underneath a series of pictures of herself with her AFL star husband Marc Murphy patting some thoroughbreds.

‘So special to meet Shamus Award who sired Incentivise – a hot favourite for today’s Melbourne Cup. This little one is also from Shamus Award, I wonder if she will grow up to be a legend of the track too,’ she wrote.

She finished: ‘The care for these incredible athletes starts from the moment they are born. We learnt so much at RosemontStud and encourage you to head to springracingcarnival.com to do the same.’

Jessie also skipped Derby Day on Saturday but said she was ‘cheering on at home with family and friends’.

‘We’ve been lucky enough to partner with Spring Carnival and have been learning about the tireless efforts taken behind the scenes to make Victorian racing possible, creating a racing event like no other.

‘Next week we will head out to visit some respected industry experts who are working behind the scenes to support the stars of the track, and bring us the next generation of Victorian racehorses.’
