Prince Charles forced to ditch 'faithful old' dog after Diana said it was too 'smelly'

The Queen is known for her beloved corgis, and dorgis (dachshund-corgi crosses), with the famed duo even depicted on a commemorative coin. However, Prince Charles also shares this love for dogs and has had many four legged friends in the past.

When the Prince of Wales was married to Princess Diana he owned a labrador named Harvey.

However, a royal author has revealed that Diana did not share Charles’ enthusiasm for the four-legged creatures.

In her 2005 book The Firm, royal author Penny Junor stated the future monarch got rid of the lab for Diana.

Ms Junor wrote: “He even gave away his faithful old labrador Harvey because Diana thought he was smelly.”

Now, however, Charles has two rescue pubs with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Camilla rescued the pair from Battersea’s Dog & Cat Home where she is a patron, the royals announced on their Instagram page.

The royal couple revealed they named their two new furry friends Bluebell and Beth.

“Bluebell and Beth, The Duchess of Cornwall’s rescue dogs, are proud to show off their Wear Blue for Rescue bandanas as they support @battersea’s new campaign,” the caption read.

“The rescue movement celebrates all the wonderful pets that just need a second chance.”
