The transfer window shuts at 5pm on August 8 and Premier League clubs need to have their incoming business sorted by then.

After the deadline they will have to wait until January to make any additions to their squad, although they can still sell players to European sides.

The window has blown hot and cold so far with Aston Villa the biggest Premier League spenders while Real Madrid have made the biggest moves on the continent.

However things are ramping up with deadline day in sight and there are a number of deals that could go through this week.

Harry Maguire to Manchester United

Manchester United are believed to have made a breakthrough over the £80m signing of Harry Maguire.

The centre-back is keen to leave Leicester with United and Manchester City thought to be interested.

But United are now in pole position and could wrap up a transfer in the coming days.

Maguire would become the most expensive centre-back in history, overtaking Virgil van Dijk, and would likely see United need to sell.

Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo would be in danger although Eric Bailly has admirers.

Gareth Bale to… someone

Zinedine Zidane claimed a deal for Gareth Bale to leave Real Madrid was close but it appears only clubs in China are willing to put a deal in front of him.

The four-time Champions League winner is being forced out and may have to settle for a move to Asia to salvage his career.

While it is believed he would prefer a move back to England no one has come forward with a deal.

Bale’s exorbitant wages are a stumbling block for Tottenham, while Manchester United are looking at younger players and Chelsea are banned from signings.

PSG may be another option but that would deal would depend on Neymar, who seems to want to return to Barcelona.

William Saliba to Arsenal

William Saliba is set for a medical at Arsenal this week ahead of his £27m transfer.

But the young centre back is set to return to Ligue 1 on loan for a year.

Unai Emery is keen to bring the youngster to the Emirates and has now accepted the wishes of Saint-Etienne by allowing him to return.

Saliba though is believed to be a long-term prospect who will enhance the Gunners’ defence.

Laurent Koscielny to Rennes

Laurent Koscielny is set to quit Arsenal for Rennes and RMC Sport claim he has agreed terms of a move.

The Arsenal defender refused to go to the States on a pre-season tour and has left Emery in something of a defensive crises.

Koscielny has one year left on his Arsenal deal and had been offered a new one but is now trying to force a move away.

Pedro Obiang to Sassuolo

West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang is set to join Sassuolo for £7.2m, according to Sky Sports.

Obiang did not feature in the Hammers’ last pre season match against Newcastle and is expected to arrive in Italy in the coming days to complete his move.
